Salutations!
Happy August! There are so many great new acquisitions here, I had
a hard time choosing things to highlight. For the third time this
year, we're completely rearranging the books in the fancy front gilt
arches to display pretty sets and leather-bound books. There's even a
40-volume set of Bulwer-Lytton with a tipped-in signed letter
from him, dated 1835. If you haven't browsed lately, there's no time
like the present!
Exciting
recent acquisitions
- some nice Tasha Tudor books, including Mother Goose
- The Complete Concordance of Shakespeare, 1966
- interesting paperback histories of Mexico, Spain and France
- African and tribal art books, including hair and animal
motifs in African sculpture
- some nice leather sets, including Charles Sumner and Edward
Fitzgerald
- books on weathervanes and other American Folk Art
- The complete early church writings of the Ante-Nicene,
Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers
- a beautiful early copy of Jose Ortega y Gasset's History
As A System, 1961

playwrighting, and in particular, turning a playscript into a

"Best Place to Browse
for Hours on a Rainy (or Snowy) Saturday
With its hardwood floors covered with faded Oriental rugs, comfy
seating and bookshelves to the ceiling stuffed with mostly used books
on a wide variety of subjects, Loganberry Books (13015
Larchmere Blvd.)
is the kind of place where you could go in and not emerge for day[s] as
you drift from room to room unearthing a string of unexpected
biblio-treasures."

Stump
the Bookseller Selection of the month

G256: Greenland
Falcon Crusade
This was a new book in the elementary school library in the late
60s/early 70s. Main character was a falconer, caring for a Greenland
falcon
(white falcon) while on Crusade. Cover might have been green. Chapter
book - I read it in 7th or 8th grade probably.

Persepolis
and Persepolis 2 by Marjane Satrapi
Thursday, August 18th, 7pm
The graphic novel is a hot new literary field notoriously dominated
by men, but Marjane Satrapi has defied the
odds with her international bestselling and award-winning account of
her childhood and coming-of-age in Iran during the Iranian Revolution.
The story is told in two volumes: Persepolis and Persepolis
2. She's just published a third
book too, called Embroderies, which is a candid girls
talk across three
generations of Iranian women. Yes, I have that one in stock, too.
Please note meeting time is postponed to the third Thursday this month.

LitArts Progress
I thought it
was going to be easier than this. Isn't that always how construction
goes? After artist Dave Repicky power washed the floor, we realized
the old paint was peeling and would have to be removed before we put
anything else down. Have you ever peeled paint off a floor? Thanks to
Peter, Cassie, Kelly, Betty and Erika for their help with this chore.
And
then we'll let maestro Jenny Hitmar do her artistry. Stay tuned.
