Loganberry News for September 2018

Time to hit the books!

Cleveland is a great book town. Just look at this list of authors who will be here this September:

Brian Abrams, Tamsin Astor, Derrick Barnes, M.T. Bass, Paul Beatty, Judy Blume, Lauren Burnett, Vivien Chien, Lee Chilcote, Shelley Costa, Casey Daniels, Rita Dove, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Christine Howey, Gordon James, Christopher Johnston, Tayari Jones, A. Van Jordan, Shane McCrae, N. Scott Momaday, Richard Montanari, Jordan Peterson, Susan Petrone, Steven Pinker, Jason Reynolds, James Robenalt, Kevin Young.

While many of these authors are part of the Anisfield-Wolf and Cleveland Book Week celebrations, a dozen are part of Loganberry's schedule (either here or off-site), and we feel very lucky to live in a town that honors and appreciates the literary arts as much as we do. And next month? Why, it's Octavofest, another tribute to the book-loving community. We obviously celebrate every month as a special book month! See you around town.

James Robenalt: Ballots and Bullets: Black Power Politics and Urban Guerrilla Warfare in 1968 Cleveland
Thursday, August 30, 7pm-8:30pm
Please join us for an informative and fascinating evening with author James Robenalt. His newest book Ballots and Bullets explores the shootout between black nationalists and police on July 23, 1968, in which ten people were killed and fifteen wounded.

Ballots and Bullets examines the revolutionary calls for addressing racism through guerrilla warfare in America's streets. It also puts into perspective the political aftermath, as racial violence and rebellions in most American cities led to white backlash and provided lift to the counterrevolution that brought Richard Nixon to power, effectively marking an end to President Johnson's "War on Poverty."

Cherie Lesnick: Journey(s)
Wednesday, October 3, 2018, 6pm-8pm
~first Wednesdays~
Wednesday, October 3rd, 6:00pm
Please join us for an opening reception to meet artist Cherie Lesnick and celebrate her new exhibition, Journey(s), on view and for sale in Loganberry Books Annex Gallery through October 2018.

The artist says: "It has been said that a journey begins with the first step – and, in my case, also the first brush stroke. Sometimes there is a map, but most often there is not. A journey may be inspired by a thought, a word, a piece of music, a descriptive passage in a book, a dream, a joy, or even a sorrow. For me, painting is not about the destination/finished product, rather it is about discovery. We all have our journeys. These paintings are a few of mine."
