Both Kosawa and Pexton are fictional, but surely not by much. This is a tale of colonialism, racism, and environmentalism, but it is also a tale of family and generational bonds. To witness the generations of struggle and inequity against corporate greed, blind racism, and environmental havoc is stunning, and perhaps the the most stunning part is the persistence of hope and belief that right will prevail." | Miranda is reading Yesterday is History by Kosoko Jackson: "I loved this moving romance-meets-time-travel where a young organ transplant patient finds himself torn between past, present, and two boys he loves." | Wendy is reading Passing by Nella Larson: "In this classic novel, Nella Larsen deals with issues of race and identity in ways that feel as fresh today as when the book was first published in 1929. The ending will haunt you long after you finish." | Miesha is reading The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw: "This collection features nine bite-sized short stories about four generations of characters grappling with the expectations of the Christian church and with their own passions, ambitions, and longing for belonging. Perfect for people who enjoyed James Baldwin’s stories about being a boy preacher in the Pentecostal church." | Elisabeth is reading Lose Your Mother by Saidiya Hartman: "This amazing book is both travelogue and a ferociously creative reach beyond the limits of biography and history as the author traces her ancestor's routes along the Middle Passage of transatlantic slavery." | Good to know: ▪ Open Tues-Sat 10-6 and Sun 12-5 ▪ Masks required ▪ It's so nice to see you, thanks for stopping by! ▪ | Open Tues-Sat 10-6 and Sun 12-5 | ▪ | It's so nice to see you, thanks for stopping by! | | Thanks for reading, Harriett & all the Loganberries | | | | |
