Black History Month

We're excited to celebrate African American History all month long. Take a look at our calendar for specifics on the new art show by local artist Eva Jones, a book club discussion of a Harlem Renaissance classic by Chester Himes, and a very special dramatic storytelling performance hosted by Restore Cleveland Hope. We'll also be offering a free commemorative pencil or bookmark (pictured here) with every purchase all month, as long as supplies last!

How to Take Your Poem from "Oh, That's Nice" to "Oh, My Gosh!"

We will use these four weekly sessions to develop your poems in surprising new ways. Each week during the session, we will closely read and analyze your poems, providing positive feedback as well as constructive criticism.

Christine Howey is an actor, director, theater critic and performance poet. She was Poet Laureate of Cleveland Heights, Ohio for 2016-2018. Her one-person show of poetry about her transgender journey, Exact Change, was recently turned into a feature film and is being submitted to film festivals in the U.S. and internationally. Since 2002, Christine has been an award-winning theater critic for Cleveland Scene and she also posts reviews on her blog, Rave and Pan. More information and registration here.

Please join us for a reception to celebrate the opening of Eva Jones' show, Love's Language, on view and and for sale in the Loganberry Books Annex Gallery through February 2018.

The pieces in this show represent the emotions and beauty of love. The colors are the main focal point throughout the pieces and are meant to invoke myriad feelings in the viewer. Artist Eva Jones looks at love not only in its many positive aspects but in a real and honest way, encouraging the viewer to enjoy and feel.

Eva Jones is a local artist born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, A Technology Consultant by day and an artist always. who's been in various local shows throughput the years and entered the world of coloring book illustrating in 2017. She's currently working on creating her own deck of Tarot Cards.

Writing Memoir

This workshop is about learning the ingredients of good memoir--voice, tone, plot, setting, narration or tension--by reading and writing. Participants will read curated selections and learn the craft of nonfiction. You will be expected to develop a piece, participate in thoughtful workshop after reviewing craft and learning workshop protocol, and revise and present your draft. More info and register here.

Instructor Charlotte Morgan is a longtime journalist and lover of non-fiction writing. She presently teaches Composition and Intro to Fiction at Cleveland State University. She is presently in revisions on two memoirs, Glenville: My Side of Paradise and Judgment in Goshen: A Taxonomy of Ordinary Murder. And in her spare time, she is developing a TV series with her LA writing partner.

Empathy Deficit Disorder provides hope for healing the nation-wide emotional and physical toxicity affecting our health and well-being. We are suffering from an empathy deficit disorder. The good news is there is a way out. Healing starts with reexamining our modern myths about how we work, what quality time at home really means, and why the age-old battle of the sexes persists.

Jackie Acho is President of The Acho Group, a strategy and leadership consulting firm. Prior to founding The Acho Group in 2005, she was a Partner of McKinsey & Company and received her master's degree and Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Eva Basilion is a public health researcher and child advocate and has worked as an epidemiologist for a public-private initiative led by Pfizer, Inc. and the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation.

Restore Cleveland Hope: How Ol' Sol Jones Got Let

Please join us for a special event by Restore Cleveland Hope to explore Cleveland's significant role in the Underground Railroad. How Ol' Sol Jones Got Let is a dramatic monologue telling the story of the escape of three slaves and a free woman through Ohio from a Culpepper County Virginia plantation. The story, told by Doan Brook farmer and abolitionist Cyrus Ford (played by actor Kevin Cronin), traces the escape through various points along the Ohio River into Cleveland prior to escaping to Canada via boats on the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie.
