Joel Bartell was born and raised in Cleveland and is a graduate of Cooper School of Art where he studied both sculpting and painting. Joel finds inspiration in the flora and fauna of Northeast Ohio; his latest works have been an expression of his deep appreciation for the spectacular trees in the area. His paintings often feature cropped subject matter in a style that draws inspiration from classic impressionism while incorporating the techniques of pointillism. Joel hopes to capture the beauty of the old, flowering and often twisted trees that line the streets of both Cleveland and Shaker Heights and impart feelings of familiarity and awe. | Local Voices Brooke Bobincheck: Blood Claws Rising: Tales of the Sanguine Empire

Born in San Francisco to a military family, Brooke Renee Bobincheck is a science, science fiction, and fantasy enthusiast. Brooke earned her Bachelor of Arts in history at Cleveland State and went on to earn her Master of Arts in US History at Virginia Commonwealth University. Brooke currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio, with her partner, Geoff, and their cat. | Local Voices Lady Poet: In His Eyes: Finding My Way Back to God

~in-store~ They say not all heroes wear capes. For local author Lady Poet that is especially true; her hero wears a business suit. In His Eyes: Finding My Way Back To God is a book about how one extraordinary manager goes above and beyond to rescue an employee. This manager thinks she is helping an employee through a domestic violence situation, but does not realize she was saving Lady Poet from a world of human trafficking. Her support allows Lady Poet to regain strength, fight back, and find her way back to God. Lady Poet was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Cleveland’s East Side. In addition to being a poet and author, she is a Domestic Violence Survivor. In sharing her story, she hopes to empower other survivors. | Independence Day Monday, July 4, 2022

Our poetry performance series, Broadsides & Ephemera, returns LIVE at Loganberry Books, and features a new format of the featured poet reading for half an hour, followed by a Q&A. You can join us in-store or online! Andrea Doe is a poet, and writer based in Cleveland, OH. She published her first book Nightmare in 2018, and recently published her second book Istighfar. She was a frequent performer at “The People’s Poetry Slam,” and has had fellowships at Twelve Literary Arts. Doe has established herself as an ekphrastic poet, having performed at SPACES art gallery and other art galleries across Cleveland. Her writing blurs the lines between prose and poetry as she keys in on topics such as racism, mental illness, womanhood, and the beauty of her Islamic faith.
