Salutations!

I figured with this much snow we ought to have free parking. That's
the parking meter outside Loganberry trying to stick up over the mound
of snow. Think Shaker Heights will buy it? Maybe my chiropractor
might...
Plenty of events and gatherings planned for February, so don't shovel
yourself in, now, alright?

Judith Petres
Balogh, Sunset
Saturday February 17, 1-3pm
Sunset is the fifth book by former Aurora/Shaker Heights
resident Judith Petres Balogh. The author was an educator and
administrator in the US Department of
Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS) in Germany, where she taught classes
for the gifted children. After working a few years as school
administrator, early retirement followed. She and her husband now live
in Ohio and in Hungary, where they converted a "disaster area" into a
lovely home (described in This Old House By The Lake).
The Hungarian Academy of Arts and Science in Cleveland awarded her book
The Countess and Her Daughter a medal for outstanding literary
efforts. She is pleased to introduce her new novel Sunset,
about women bound by deep friendship, ignoring the burdens of age and
of life
accidents, defying loneliness and arthritis, and each in her own,
unique
way giving new meaning to life.

Gaming Girls
Thursday,
February 8, 7pm
If your dominoes have only six plain white dots on them, then you
haven't discovered the joys of a games called Mexican Train. It's a
fairly easy strategy game, perfect for unwinding with friends. 'Course
there are always some friends who find a strategy in such games and
raise the stakes a tad....
Bloomsday Book Club
Thursday, February 22, 7pm
We've decided to tackle Ulysses instead of Finnegans
Wake (there's an order to the world, after all). You haven't
missed a thing yet, so join us February 22 at the new-improved 7pm
time. How many best-of lists has Ulysses taken top
honors? I've lost count, but it's enough to tempt any ambitious
reader.
We'll tackle it slowly, and discuss it at
length the fourth Thursday of each month. We have The New
Bloomsday Book in stock now, and copies of Ulysses
forthcoming. Let me know if you're coming and if you need books so we
can best plan. We might even have cookies.

I102: injured animals
search for utopia
1970s. several misfit or injured animals from a pet shop escape
and travel together in search of a utopia they believe to be called san
diego zoo. There is a snake with a broken tail, a bird or parrot, some
animal like a ferret and others. these animals are not adoptable
because of their deformities. They adventure into the sewers and I
believe they travel in a truck as well. they do not know what a "zoo"
is, they just know it is a paradise for animals.
