~Holiday Stroll Signings~

Raised in a tiny, poverty-stricken town in rural Missouri, Emmy Award-winning news anchor Romona Robinson, along with her ten siblings, knew what it meant to struggle. Under the tutelage of her hardworking and God-fearing mother, Romona developed an affinity for the Bible and Walter Cronkite. She also believed her home on a dead-end dirt road would lead her to somewhere. And it did. While crossing paths with the likes of the Ku Klux Klan, Nelson Mandela, and Barack Obama, Romona experienced unimagined pain, love, and success. Her compelling story will inspire you to examine your own purpose and to walk in faith, not fear.

Friday, November 24, 2017, 3:00PM

~Holiday Stroll Signings~
George Szell was the Cleveland Orchestra's towering presence for over a quarter of a century. From the boardroom to the stage, Szell's powerful personality affected every aspect of a musical institution he reshaped in his own perfectionist image. As a musician herself, and married to an oboist who worked under Szell, Kraus pulls back the curtain on this storied era through fascinating interviews with orchestra musicians and patrons. Filled with vivid backstage stories, George Szell's Reign reveals the human side of a great orchestra and how one visionary built a premier classical music institution.

Malu Halasa: Mother of All Pigs
Saturday, November 25, 2017, 3:00PM

~Holiday Stroll Signings~
Malu Halasa's new novel follows the Sabas family, who live in a small Jordanian town that for centuries has been descended upon by all manner of invader, the latest a scourge of Evangelical tourists. Meanwhile, the Sabas home is ruled by women ― Mother Fadhma, Laila, Samira, and now, Muna, a niece visiting from America for the first time. The family’s ostensible patriarch―Laila’s husband, Hussein―is known locally as the Levant’s only pig butcher, dealing in chops, sausages, and hams, much to the chagrin of his observant neighbors. When a long-lost soldier from Hussein's military past arrives, the Sabas clan must decide whether to protect or expose him, bringing long-simmering rivalries and injustices to the surface. Enchanting and fearless, Halasa's prose intertwines the lives of three generations of women as they navigate the often stifling, sometimes absurd realities of everyday life in the Middle East.

Bucket List Book Club

Maxine Hong Kingston: The Woman Warrior
Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 7:00PM

~fourth Wednesdays~
In her award-winning book The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston created an entirely new form—an exhilarating blend of autobiography and mythology, of world and self, of hot rage and cool analysis. As a girl, Kingston lives in two confounding worlds: the California to which her parents have immigrated and the China of her mother’s “talk stories.” The fierce and wily women warriors of her mother’s tales clash jarringly with the harsh reality of female oppression out of which they come. Kingston’s sense of self emerges in the mystifying gaps in these stories.
