Both for good and for bad, our trifecta of pand The new normal is not normal, but there's no going back to "the way things were." Both for good and for bad, our trifecta of pandemic, economic collapse, and social upheaval will leave lasting change in our habits, pastimes, and expectations. Hope to see you there! | Lines from Loganberry Podcast Wednesdays at 7pm Lines from Loganberry is the official Loganberry Books podcast! You can listen on Spotify and on Anchor. This month, we'll be airing a 2-part series with Loganberry's Local Voices manager Miesha Headen interviewing Dr. Todd Michney and Kathleen Crowther on the Cleveland Restoration Society's book (authored by Michney and edited in part by Crowther), The Making of Cleveland's Black Suburb in the City: Lee-Seville & Lee Harvard. Later in the month, we'll host author Beth Armstrong, author of Voices from the Ape House. | Black Future Month Illuminating Black Authors Saturday, August 1-August 31, 2020 We've decided to answer the question author NK Jemisin rhetorically asks in the title of her story collection How Long Til Black Future Month? by declaring August as Black Future Month. We encourage everyone to find ways to celebrate Black Future Month, exactly half a year from Black History Month: a time to imagine and equip ourselves to work for a future that honors and celebrates all Black lives and work. This year, we will participate in a performance art shelving project called Illuminating Black Authors, akin to our Illustrating the Gender Gap project of March 2017. In the LitArts room, we will push fiction books written by non-Black people to the back of the shelf, and highlight books written by Black* authors face-out in front. Our objective is to highlight works written by Black writers and to guide your reading discovery to voices from the African diaspora and Africa (not just to showcase the disparity; we know it's enormous). Customers are welcome to join us in the project, as we research what we can and make the shelving shift on Saturday, August 1st. One hour of your time will earn you $10 in Loganberry book credit! The exhibition will remain in place through the month of August, and all books will of course be available for browsing and for sale. *We're working within the knowledge that race (like gender) is a social construct with profoundly real affects on human lives. For the purposes of this project, we'll highlight the work of authors who self-define as Black or African/of African descent. | Book of the Month Club Did you know that we hand-select and mail books directly to your door even when there's not a pandemic on?
